The basic foundation
and principles of a good martial arts school is not only all
about fighting application, but also about good lifestyle
fundamentals and moral principles hidden behind every great
range of techniques and training methods that lead one to a deep
understanding of Chinese martial arts style.
Wu-de
武德
means martial virtue, which is the foremost quality of martial
arts. Chinese proverbs say:
"A full can of water will not make
noise, but a half can does."
"The taller the bamboo grows, the lower
it bows."
"The truly humble always know others,
and do not care if other people know them."
"Those who have to criticize others are
those whose minds are void."
"The Yin side of dignity is false pride
and self-spite."
"Those who despise
themselves are always concerned with their dignity."
All truly good
martial artists, from ancient times to the present, have
displayed good character and morals as an example for others to
follow.
